The IR results confirm that lanthanum tri-caprylate has an ionic character and the fatty acid exists as a dimer. The X-ray analysis supports the view that the metal soap has a double layer structure with molecular axes slightly inclined towards the basal plane. The kinetics of thermal decomposition follows zero order and the conductance results show that the compound is not a very-weak-electrolyte.
