Flexible explosive cord consists of a filament (pref. nylon) reinforced extrudate of 40-80% explosive (pref. pentaerythritol tetranitrate) with the remainder of butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer (50-80%: 10-45% with sufficient acrylic acid to provide 0.001-0.3 COOH equiv./100 pts. copolymer), 0.5-2 times the equiv. of the COOH grps. of polyvalent metal ions (pref. as ZnO) and 1-20% plasticizer (e.g. dibutyl phthalate). Pref. up to 25% polyether urethane elastomer (e.g. du Pont liquid 'Adiprene' L-100 ot L315) together with a diamine, etc. urethan curing agent is included. The materials are mixed as an aq. dispersion and the water removed from the extrudate before curing at 160 deg.-225 deg.F for 8-24 hr. Detonating cord useable when wet and at temp. of -50 deg. to +180 deg.F.
