Phase locking of ring lasers

The optical layout of a phase locking system for two ring lasers is presented. Phase locking of the two rings was demonstrated by interfering the forward wave outputs. When either output was blocked or the coupling beam was interrupted, the fringes disappeared. The fringe visibility varied from pulse to pulse with values ranging from 0.3 to 0.9, as determined by the formula: visibility = (Imax - Imin)/(Imax + Imin).
