It is proposed to use a sonic energy generator to increase the recovery efficiency of a reservoir. This process is particularly useful in low producing or depleted reservoirs which still contain large amounts of petroleum. The generator can be used in wells containing perforated casing, perforated liners, or open-hole completions. The acoustic energy is tramsmitted from the fluid within the well into the formation through the perforations in the casing. The wide range of application is made possible by using a generator that is powerful enough to dependably radiate sound waves through unperforated casing. (16 claims)
