摘要:

In Brighton, we have exceptionally high rates of party drug use including chemsex among men who have sex with men (MSM) including injection drug use (slamming). 1 The ever-changing landscape of drugs and legal highs pose challenges to healthcare professionals to keep up to date with current 'trends' and subsequently to engage in meaningful discussion to support and advise patients. 2 To determine staff confidence, challenges and training needs, we sent an eight-question electronic survey to all staff members in our integrated sexual health service relating to prior training in discussing party-drug use with MSM and staff confidence in doing so. We received 93 responses—16 doctors, 26 nurses and 52 allied health professionals including health advisers, healthcare assistants, pharmacists and community staff. While 58.7% (54/92) were happy with their current knowledge and 53.9% (49/91) felt confident to discuss party-drug use, only 40.5% (36/89) felt confident when discussing 'slamming'. And 66.7% (54/ 81) had received specific training on party-drug use in MSM, but 93% (75/81) felt they would benefit from further training. Seventy-seven respondents gave suggestions on the main challenges. These were grouped into themes. A total of 46.6% (41/88) of staff felt the main challenges surrounded terminology and drug mode of action, and 14.8% (13/88) had difficulty with patients not disclosing drug use or not perceiving it as a problem. Seventy-two respondents gave suggestions as to how further training should be delivered. The vast majority (46.6% (41/88)) preferred small groups led by experts, possibly including service users sharing their experiences. REFERENCES 1 Kurka T, Soni S, Richardson D.
