A polyester film and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve water resisting property by forming a polyvinyl alcohol film on at least one surface of a base film. The polyester film has a polyvinyl alcohol film formed on at least one surface of a base film. The polyvinyl alcohol film is made of a polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution with the polymerization degree of 1,500~2,500 and saponification degree of 95~99.5%. The thickness of the polyvinyl alcohol film is 0.1~2mum. The base film is a biaxially oriented film. A polyester film manufacturing method comprises the steps of: melting, extruding, and drawing the polyethylene terephthalate in a vertical direction; applying the polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution on at least one surface; and then horizontally drawing and thermally treating the film coated with the polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution.
