Bactericidal Minimum Concentration of Extract of Popularily Known as "cajueiro" Upon Bacterias of Dental Biofilm
摘要:
Objective: To study the bactericidal activity, in vitro, of bark's extract of Anacardium occidentale Linn. (cajueiro) upon microorganisms in dental biofilm formers comparing with chlorexidine gluconate (0,12%).Method: The determination of Bactericidal Minimum Concentration (BMC) was realized concomitant with the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration in liquid (MIC) determined by the method of dilution in liquid medium using a scale with increasing concentrations of the hydroalcoholic extract of Anacardium occidentale Linn, ranging from 1:1 to 1:1024 dilution, followed by plating the contents of tubes containing growth visible or not and determine the number of colonies per plate, being definied the BMC with the lesser concentration of extract that showed 0,01% of survivors bacterias. Results: All bacterias assayed demonstrated high sensibility to extract of "cajueiro" in a concentration of 1:4 (Streptococcus sanguis and Lactobacillus casei) to 1:8 (Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus sobrinus) compared to a chlorhexidine gluconate 0.12% who acted in a concentration of 1:2 (Stretococcus mitis), 1:4 (Streptococcus sobrinus) and 1:8 (Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis and Lactobacillus casei), and, observing the activity until a dilution of 1:8 for both substances. Conclusion: the barks extract of Anacardium occidentale Linn. (cajueiro) show bactericidal activity in vitro upon on the main microorganisms in dental biofilm formers, thus suggesting the continuation of studies with this phytotherapic, to obtain future to be an effective adjuvant to chemical control of biofilm supragengival thus acting in the prevention and treatment of caries and periodontal disease.
