SUMMARYNeurotransmitters such as glutamate have long been suspected to play a role in ASD. Glutamate receptor antagonists have great potential in curbing or reversing the core symptoms of ASD. In addition, neuromodulators such as oxytocin may be applied to improve social functions of autistic patients and early results using intranasal oxytocin are promising.
