Adsorbable organic halogen compounds removal in an industrial wastewater by sonolysis
摘要:
Studies of sonolyis (US/O 3 ), where ultrasound is implemented as a catalyst for more efficient radical production, have indicated that this technique can be used in order to meet the restricted regulations of recalcitrant compounds in industrial wastewater. However, most studies focus on monocomponent streams and therefore only examine one out of three reaction types that can occur during ultrasonic assisted chemical oxidation. Since real wastewaters contain a large variety of pollutants with different properties, it was examined how the sonolysis process performed on an industrial effluent with a high pollution degree of AOX (~10000 g L -1 ). Results indicate that this oxidation technique is well capable of reducing AOX concentration, and that the presence of high frequency (> 500 kHz) sound waves further enhances mass transfer and degradation kinetics. At the experimental conditions of this work, a frequency of 583 kHz yielded the highest degradation percentages and first-order kinetics.
