Cartoons and figures are used frequently to illustrate the text in an excellent way. However, due to the printing technique the photos used have such a low graphic quality that the use of them seems inappropriate. Despite the rapid progress in the field, the book is up to date with recent trends in pediatric endocrinology. The therapeutic strategies suggested are, however, sometimes controversial, as for example the insulin regimen suggested in childhood diabetes. The lack of a consequent use of SI-units limits the value of some chapters of the book. The last part of the book contains a list of excellent reference charts "frequently used by endocrinologists in assessing growth and development". For the general pediatrician with an interest in endocrinology and physiology the book is to be recommended especially because of its comprehensive sets of growth charts.
