PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily divide a multi-unit ribbon of coated optical fibers into single- unit optical fiber elements while communication is carried out and to reduce variation in optical transmission loss when the multi-unit ribbon of coated optical fibers is separated into the single-unit elements and when bundling operation is done.;SOLUTION: The optical fiber ribbon is constituted by arranging optical fibers in a plane in parallel and coupling the adjacent optical fibers with coating materials; and the coating materials of the coupling parts are different in vertical coupling force and coating layers which have a large coupling force of coating along the length of the coupling coating layers and coating layers which have a small coupling force are provided at the same positions of the respective join parts. Further the coupling forces of the coating materials of the coupling parts are made large and small intermittently at fixed intervals along the length of the coating layers of the coupling parts.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
