PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer, having isocyanurate groups, well balanced in characteristics and useful as wire enamels, etc., at a low cost by reacting cyanuric acids with a glycol, a dicarboxylic acid, aromatic tricarboxylic acids and an aromatic diamine. CONSTITUTION:A glycol (e.g. ethylene glycol) is previously reacted with a dicarboxylic acid (e.g. terephthalic acid) in the presence or absence of a solvent to provide a precondensate. Cyanuric acid or an isomer thereof, an aromatic tricarboxylic acid (e.g. trimellitic acid) and/or anhydride thereof and an aromatic diamine (e.g. 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane) are added and thermally reacted therewith to afford the objective polyester imide having isocyanurate bonds in the molecular structure. Furthermore, the resultant polyester imide is then mixed with a curing agent and/or a modifier to provide a wire enamel.
