A package for preparing soup using a coffee maker comprises a pad formed by two sheets whose overlapping peripheral edges (8) are bonded together to form a closed cavity (9) containing the water-soluble soup ingredients, and a sachet containing the water-insoluble soup ingredients. Hot water is delivered to the side of the first sheet in the coffee maker and then permeates through the pad to dissolve the pad contents and the resulting soup solution then exits the pad by flowing through the second sheet. An independent claim is also included for a method for making soup using this package, comprising placing the pad in the coffee maker, opening the sachet and pouring its contents into a vessel, switching the coffee maker on and collecting the soup solution in the vessel containing the sachet contents.
