A process for recovering an organic solvent phase extractant from a solid stabilized emulsion formed in a hydrometallurgical solvent extraction circuit, comprising: a) mixing a water-soluble or water-swellable polymeric aggregation agent with the solid stabilized emulsion, separating in that way the emulsion in its aqueous, organic and solid components; and b) removing the extractant organic solvent phase from the separated components, thereby recovering the emulsion extracting organic solvent phase, in which the water-swellable or water-swellable polymeric aggregation agent comprises a polymer derived from at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of: i) a cationic monomer selected from one or more of the formulas I, II or III ** Formula ** in which R1, R2 and R5 are each independently hydrogen or a C1 to C6 alkyl; R3 and R4 are each independently hydrogen, a C1 to C12 alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or hydroxyethyl; and R2 and R4 or R2 and R3 can be combined to form a cyclic ring containing one or more heteroatoms; Z is the conjugate base of an acid, X is oxygen or -NR6, in which R6 is hydrogen or a C1 to C6 alkyl; and A is a C1 to C12 alkylene; diallyl dialkylammonium halides; N, N-dialkylaminoalkyl (meth) acrylates; N, N-dialkylaminoalkyl (meth) acrylamides; salts thereof; quaternary compounds thereof; and mixtures thereof; ii) an anionic monomer selected from the group consisting of: (alkyl) acrylic acid; fumaric acid; crotonic acid; maleic acid; 2-acrylamido-2- (C1-C6 alkyl sulfonic acid); styrene sulfonic acid; salts thereof; and mixtures thereof; and iii) a non-ionic monomer selected from the group consisting of: (alkyl) acrylamide; N- (alkyl) acrylamides; N, Ndialkyl acrylamides, methylacrylate; methyl methacrylate; acrylonitrile; N-vinyl acetamide; N-vinylformamide; Nvinylpyrrolidone; hydroxyalkyl methacrylates; styrene; vinyl acetate; salts thereof; and mixtures thereof.
