The present invention provides a method for producing poly (allylamine) hydrochloride, sevelamer hydrochloride, sevelamer carbonate, and colesevelam hydrochloride. The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of poly (allylamine) hydrochloride, sevelamer hydrochloride, sevelamer carbonate and colesevelam hydrochloride of low allylamine content and high specific gravity.
