摘要:

Allergic diseases involving common manifestations bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis are on an escalating path, in all parts of the world. The use of herbal remedies for treatment, has been gaining momentum in recent years. This study involve qualitative and quantitative determination of phyto-chemicals and assessment of Bioactivities involving Antibacterial, Antioxidant, more specifically anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory activities, of three traditional medicinal plants Taraxacum officinale, Eruca sativa and Mentha arvensis. Experimental evaluation through chromatographic techniques indicated that all three plants are rich source of secondary phytoconstituents (Alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, cardiac glycosides). Sesquiterpenoids and several triterpenes such as α- and -amyrins, oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are found major constituents of T. officinale and M. arvensis. Ascorbic acid and quercetin present in E. sativa while seed oil analysis by gas chromatography revealed the presence of Erucic acid (51.2%), oleic acid (15.1%), cis- 11-eicosenoic acid (12.5%) and other essential and non-essential fatty acids. The antimicrobial activity against Gram +ve and Gram –ve bacterial strains, was evaluated for E. sativa, T. officinale and M. arvensis, 52-72 g/ml, 20-70 g/ml and 30-60 g/ml, respectively and compared to 56-70 μg/ml standard antibiotic (Gentamicine). Anti-oxident potential of these medicinal plants was evaluated by H2O2 scavenging assay. Organic extracts of E.sativa, T. officinale and M. arvensis showed significant scavenging potential for H2O2 29.6%, 39.7% and 34.9% respectively. The Anti-allergic activity of organic extracts of E. sativa, M. arvensis and T. officinale, showed 63%, 57%, 55% inhibition potential respectively. E. sativa and T. officinale and M. arvensis are rich source of secondary phytoconstituents which impart significant anti-allergic, antibacterial and antioxidant therapeutic potential. Therefore the obtained results in this work contribute significantly to support the claim about the use of this herb in folk medicines against allergic disorders and infectious diseases.
