Addition of catecholborane to vinylarenes in the presence of Wilkinson's catalyst, [RhCl(PPh3)3], gives Markovnikov hydroboration products exclusively, whereas the corresponding reaction with alpha-substituted vinylarenes gives good yields of vinylboronate esters resulting from dehydrogenative borylation.
