Monolignol (4) glucosides were isolated and identified from the needles of P. contorta. Chavicol 4-O-.alpha.-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1 .fwdarw. 6)-.beta.-D-glucopyranoside, the known 4'-O-.beta.-D-glucopyranoside of 2,3-dihydro-7-hydroxy-2-(4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxyphenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl-5- benzofuranpropanol and shikimic acid were also isolated.
