PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer-scaling inhibitor which comprises a quinone condensation product and a specific diphenyl compound, and is capable of producing polymers free from initial discoloration without polymer scaling on the vapor-liquid phase interface, by coating the inner walls of the polymerizer for an ethylenically unsaturated monomer with this inhibitor and drying before polymerization.
