Development of ultra-high density and fiber-count cable using 200-μm - coated Bend Insensitive Optical Fiber Complying with G.652.D and G.657.A1

In 68th IWCS, we have presented a new 200 μm coated bending-loss-insensitive optical fiber that realizes the same MFD with standard single-mode fiber (SSMF), low macro-bending loss complying with ITU-T G.657.A1, and low micro-bending loss, simultaneously. The 200 μm coated fiber is generally inferior in micro-bending resistance compared with 250 μm fiber. A transmission characteristic deteriorates if it is packed with high density in a cable. We redesigned fiber coating resins to pass the temperature cycling test with ultra-high density and fiber-count cable. As a result, we successfully achieved to develop a new ultra-high-count cable extending fiber counts up to 1728 fibers.
