In an intervention during the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee 81, the Washington-based boxship trade association said the IMO should prioritise the proper identi_cation of container contents and accurate weights, as mislabelling results in ship _res, improper stowage and collapsed stacks. "Stowage of plastic pellets below deck or in the inner decks requires proper and accurate declaration of the cargo carried in a given container. Such declarations are already a legally binding requirement, but to be blunt, there is simply little or no enforcement of these requirements across the world," WSC said.
