The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a composition containing a dichroic dye, which has excellent coating workability and is useful for the formation of a dye film that enables the production of a high-quality polarizing element having excellent polarization performance; a dye film which is produced using this composition containing a dichroic dye; and a polarizing element which comprises this dye film. A composition which is characterized by containing (A) at least one dichroic dye, (B) at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers, polyoxyethylene alkylene alkyl ethers, polyoxyethylene distyrenated phenyl ethers and polyoxyethylene tribenzyl phenyl ethers, and (C) a solvent, and which is also characterized in that the surfactant has an HLB value of from 12.5 to 17.5 (inclusive).
