Provided are methods for enhancing the cellular uptake of a drug or a dietary supplement by administering the drug or dietary supplement concurrently with one or more members of the d-tetrandrine family. The drug or dietary supplement is formulated either as a single formulation with d-tetrandrine or as separate formulations for simultaneous or sequential administration sufficiently close together, to the cells being treated. Also provided is a dietary supplement kit containing a member of the d-tetrandrine family and a dietary supplement.
