CAPTURING THE BIPV ADVANTAGE WITH FLEXIBLE THIN-FILM
摘要:
Flexible photovoltaics have unique advantages when used in conjunction with roofing materials. Triple junction thin-film amorphous silicon laminates can be adhered to metal roofing, integrated with single-ply membrane or used as a roofing material on their own. Invented by Stanford Ovshinsky and developed by United Solar Ovonic (UNISOLAR) these laminates are lightweight, shatterproof, vandal resistant, and offer superior performance in high heat and low light conditions. Development work done over the last year by the author in conjunction with the PV laminate manufacturer and roofing companies has resulted in the production of aesthetically pleasing PV roofing products that are easier and less costly to install than previous PV products. Building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions allow roofing to serve the dual function of a weatherproof skin and power generator while enhancing aesthetics, reducing lifecycle costs and increasing reliability and security. These BIPV products will allow building designers to modify a building's skin to optimize power production and enhance aesthetics. The paper explains how all factors combine to make flexible thin-film the lowest cost and most aesthetically pleasing BIPV solution for appropriate applications.
