Enabling greener strategies: A tool for the synthesis of bioactive molecules in drug discovery

The chemistry and biology of natural products signifies a major avenue to academic drug discovery and development. With the ever-increasing power of organic synthesis, the synthetic organic chemist is poised to make important contributions by inventing and developing new synthetic strategies for the construction of complex molecules. With regard to synthetic protocols, we have designed new routes to several classes of natural products. In addition, the efficient and sustainable catalytic systems for C–C, C–N and C–S bond formation reactions were explored and studied their mechanistic pathways of the catalysts through online ESI-MS/MS experiments. Gratifyingly, we developed short, high yielding, cost-effective, atom economy, green reactions, and such 'green reactions' are creative and brings about prosperity, and at the same time takes responsibility towards society to a greater extent. Eventually, the academic drug discovery research initiatives provide an opportunity to create a unique environment that is distinct from the traditional models.
