Effect of Sodium Nitrate on the Formation of Graphene Oxide via Modified Hummers Method for Sensors Application
摘要:
Recently, graphene oxide (GO) had become an attraction material in sensors application due to its unique properties. This study examines the effect of adding sodium nitrate (NaNO) to the modified Hummers method in order to synthesis GO. Characterization using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirms the GO with high purity was obtained and the peak of graphite was totally disappeared from the samples. The absorbance spectra of samples solution were detected by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, the exfoliation of graphene sheets confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) provide information about the elements that exist in the sample which confirms the existence of oxygen functional groups. The result has shown that the sample with the presence of NaNO3 as a solvent produced the highest quality of GO which later suitable to be applied as a base material for the sensor application to significantly enhance its overall performance and device efficiency.
