摘要：

The following paper by D. Ritchie and the late D. White Ph.D. was presented at the 1971 IVE Annual School The purpose of this study is the further elucidation of the reactions which occur when firing a direct-on titania opacified enamel applied to decarburised steel. It is hoped that this investigation will provide a basis both for more detailed study of the reactions involved, and also for the development of new glass coating systems. Initially it was decided to study one enamel-metal system, Radiation 6600 enamel and Vitrostaal, a combination in use commercially within the Radiation Group. The aim was to simulate as closely as possible the industrial enamelling process but with the stricter controls possible in the laboratory. Thus it was hoped that the results would be directly related to industrial practice.
