Scattering of TE plane wave from periodic grating with single defect

This paper deals with the scattering of TE plane wave from a periodic grating with single defect, of which position is known. Taking TE plane wave as an incidence, the wave field in the upper region is epressed as a sum of the coherently diffracted wave and the scatterded wave, and that of the inside the groove in terms of guided modes. From the boundary condition, the optical theorem is obtained, which expresses a relation between the power of the scattering and the reduction of the scattering amplitude. It is found that, due to the single defect in the grating, some ripples appear in scattering cross section, of which directions changes with widths of the groove, while the directions of the coherent diffraction are dependent on the period of the groove.
