The recent sequencing of the Haemophilias influenzae genome has provided the scientific community with its first look at the complete genome of a living organism. The success of this sequencing venture and the resulting unique insights into the biology of a single-cell organism will encourage new ventures into whole genome analysis of organisms other than just those targeted for sequencing under the human genome project As sequencing technology and systems integration for production sequencing improve, we believe that whole genome sequencing will become a standard technique for the study of an organism.
