The German Research Council has published her future funding priorities for scientific information systems in a recent whitepaper. Central activities will be the digitization of comprehensive scientific literature collections, licensing of electronic publications on national and international scale, an international networking structure for open access repositories and new models for virtual research environments. To be successful projects will have to watch and match international benchmarks.
