Antitumour Polysaccharide derived Chemically from Natural Glucan (Pachyman)

WE have reported1 that the polysaccharide lentinan obtained from Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Sing. (a popular edible mushroom in Japan) had a strong antitumour activity against sarcoma 180 implanted subcutaneously in mice, and that almost complete regression of the tumours had been observed after ten doses of 1 mg/kg. Lentinan is a β-(13)-linked linear glucan having a molecular weight of 950,000–1,050,000 according to light scattering methods.
