Diagnosis of Langerhans'cell histiocytosis by fine needle aspiration cytology

Objective:To study the role of preoperative fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC)in the diagnosis of Langerhans'celI histiocytosis(LCH)of the bone.Methods:FNAC smears were stained with HE,Wright staining and immunohistochemistry and observed under light microscope.Results: Twenty-one cases of LCH were diagnosed by FNAC,in which 19 cases were confirmed by postoperative histological examination.The sensitive rate of FNAC in diagnosis of LCH was 94.7%.Conclusion: FNAC is a rapid and useful technique for immdiated diagnosis of LCH that allows concurrent therapy.
