Mild Hydrogenation of Benzonitrile to Benzylamine over Amorphous NiAl Alloy Catalyst

Benzonitrile was selectively hydrogenated into benzylamine under mild conditions over activated amorphous nickel aluminium alloy catalyst which was prepared by rapidly quenching method.Effects of solvent type,initial benzonitrile concentration,catalyst dosage,NaOH dosage,reaction temperature and pressure on the hydrogenation were investigated.Apparent activation energy of the catalytic hydrogenation was calculated.Under optimal reaction conditions: catalyst dosage(mass fraction based on benzonitrile)6%,ethanol as solvent,NaOH dosage(mass fraction based on benzonitrile) 10%,initial benzonitrile concentration 2.0 mol/L,2.0 MPa and 40 ℃,conversion of benzonitrile and selectivity to benzylamine in 60 min can reach 99.9% and 95.2% respectively,and apparent activation energy of the catalytic hydrogenation of benzonitrile is 20.4 kJ/mol.
