The field of conjugate addition reactions is a vast one. A book1 and several excellent reviews2 have appeared over the last few years, which cover most aspects of conjugate addition reactions. The focus in this chapter will be mainly on the use of non-racemic3 additives, e.g. ligands and/or catalysts, in asymmetric conjugate additions. The chapter begins with a brief introduction to the chemistry of conjugate additions. After this it is organized according to the class of nucleophile or incipient nucleophile.
