Oxidation dye composition for dyeing keratin fibers comprises a combination of: (a) 2,4-dichloro-3-aminophenol or its salts; (b) 2-hydroxyalkyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (I) or its salts; and (c) a 3-alkyl-4-aminophenol (II) or its salts. Oxidation dye composition for dyeing keratin fibers comprises a combination of: (i) 2,4-dichloro-3-aminophenol or its salts; (ii) a 2-hydroxyalkyl-1,4-phenylenediamine of formula (I) or its salts; and (iii) a 3-alkyl-4-aminophenol of formula (II) or its salts. R1 = 1-4C monohydroxyalkyl or 2-6C polyhydroxyalkyl; R2, R3 = H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C monohydroxyalkyl, 2-6C polyhydroxyalkyl, 1-4C aminoalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C hydroxyalkoxy, OZ or SZ; Z = 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C monohydroxyalkyl or 2-6C polyhydroxyalkyl; R4 = 1-4C alkyl; R5, R6 = H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C monohydroxyalkyl, 2-6C polyhydroxyalkyl, 1-4C aminoalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or 1-4C hydroxyalkoxy. An Independent claim is also included for a method for dyeing keratin fibers, comprising: (1) applying the above composition to the fibers; (2) rinsing it off after allowing it to act; and (3) optionally shampooing the fibers.
