摘要：
A 21-step asymmetric synthesis of 23, which possesses the aryl subunit and the C(9)-C(21) segment of the stereochemically complex ansa chain of (+)-macbecin I (1), has been achieved. The subsequent conversion of 23 into 25, which was an advanced intermediate in Baker's total synthesis of 1, constitutes a formal synthesis of 1.
