Trip steels — A new class of high-strength steels with high plasticity

The principles of alloying and treatment of TRIP steels are first reviewed. The effect of strain martensite on the strength and plastic characteristics of metastable austenitic steels is then briefly considered. The effect of various treatments on the strength and plasticity of TRIP steels is examined in some detail. The treatments are: strain-thermal hardening, hardening by thermal cycling, treatment by hydrostatic extrusion and shock waves. Finally, the toughness and stress corrosion resistance and some applications of TRIP steels are given
