An aqueous composition for treating hydrocarbon wells comprising an aqueous medium, a scale inhibitor, and a guar. The guar may be a nonderivatized guar or a derivatized guar consisting of cationic or nonionic substituent groups and is present from 0.1 percent to a maximum of 50 percent. Additionally, the scale inhibitor is present from 1 to 50 percent.
