Zinc ion has been shown to form three complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline in aqueous solution: the mono-, di- and tri-1,10-phenanthroline zinc ion. The equilibrium constants for these complexes have been evaluated and found to be 3.7 × 10-7, 7 × 10-13 and 1 × 10-17 for K1, K2 and K3, respectively, at 25°.
