Rheological properties of carbopol gels

The rheological properties of Carbopol 940gels made in RITA Corp.(USA) and China wereinvestigated by continuing shear viscometry us-ing Rheotest 2 cone and plate device.The resultsindicated that carbopol gels provided plastic flowcurves.The rheological properties of importedCarbopol 940 gel was similar to those of carbopolgel made in China.Apparent viscosities variedwith concentration.The neutralized gels hadmaximum viscosities at pH7～9.The gels exhib-ited a relatively small variation in viscosity withtemperature at room temperature,cold,frozencycling and ageing,even though autoclave steril-ization.Daylight reduced viscosity,followed bythe first order reaction kinetic with T_(1/2) 21.7～33.0 days.
