Occurrence of bovine leukocyte adhesion deficiency (BLAD) of Holstein Friesian in Austria
摘要:
Clinical as well as pathomorphological findings of 2 Holstein Friesian calves suffering from BLAD are described. DNA analysis revealed, that both animals were heterozygous for a pointmutation (D128G), which is known to cause BLAD in the homozygous state. The predominant symptoms observed were inflammation of the respiratory as well as the digestive tract and a severe leucocytosis (case 1: 240.0 G leukocytes/l; case 2: 55.3 G leukocytes/l). In one animal necrotic laryngitis and gingivitis occurred. Histologically an activated erythro- and myelopoesis and massive leucocytostasis were found. In one case (calf 1) the pedigree certificate reveals the breeding bull Penstate Ivanhoe Star, who is known to be a carrier of the gene defect. In the other case (calf 2), the pedigree information was not available.
