摘要：

The basic mechanical and thermal properties of engineering materials are surveyed and inter-related. The survey reveals the range of each property, and the sub-range associated with each material class. These and the relationships between properties are displayed on Material Property Charts, of which 10 are presented here. The diagrams have numerous applications which range from the identification of fundamental relationship between material properties to the selection of materials for engineering design.
