摘要:

The authors discuss the study "Intraoperative ketamine reduces perioperative opiate consumption in opiate-dependent patients with chronic back pain undergoing back surgery," by R. W. Loftus, M. P. Yeager, J. A. Clark, et al. which appeared within the issue. They compare the findings of the study with other studies that have investigated ketamine as an adjunctive analgesic in the perioperative period. They conclude that the study failed to answer important questions including the dose and infusion duration of ketamine and the specific benefits and possible risks of using an adjunct analgesics and gabapentin.
