A number of 1,4-diols such as (I), (II), 1,3-diols (III), (IV), and 1,2-diols (V), (VI) are prepared by conventional methods and used as alkoxy ligands on Ti for enantioselective nucleophilic transfer of various alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl groups to aldehydes such as (VII).
