The management of incontinence.
摘要：
The Science Research Council recently promoted a meeting to determine whether current advances in materials science could contribute to the management of incontinence. From the meeting it was clear that data was urgently required to quantify the size of the problem, both in terms of diagnosis and functional deficit. Further, that education as to the availability of current devices and training in their use was vital for potential users and those involved in their care. Finally, the need for scientific work in a number of areas was was highlighted: interfaces; collection/disposal; occlusive devices; catheters; monitoring/training devices; controlled drug release; and design improvements. It is hoped that the meeting will stimulate work particularly in these areas.
