The article discusses research done on the regulation of the epigenetic state of ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) genes using noncoding transcripts in sense and antisense orientation. The presence of ribosomal deoxyribonucleic acid (rDNA) is seen in two types of chromatin, namely, a heterochromatic conformation and a euchromatic conformation. The article also offers information on the significance of epigenetics to gene expression control.
