Prepn. of a bonding glass plane comprising two individual glass panes sepd. by an intermediate thermoplastic polymer layer and having a polymer sealing lip extending over the perimeter surface, for adhesion to the reinforcing flange of a window opening. The process comprises joining the two glass sheets of ca. equal size with an intermediate thermoplastic polymer film having small surface dimensions by releasing the edge regions of the glass panes and then filling the edge groove between the panes and thermoplastic layer with an extrudable polymer using an extrusion die, whilst simultaneously forming a sealing lip extending over the perimeter surface in a radial direction. Pref. the glass surfaces at the edge grove are pre-treated with a liq. adhesion promoting agent prior to the extrusion process. The extrudable polymer is pref. a moisture-curable single component polyurethane system, a two component polyurethane system or a thermoplastic polyolefin elastomer comprising isotactic polypropylene and ethylene-propylene-diene rubber. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for preparing front, rear or side vehicle windscreens, windows, or glazing for doors, furniture, kitchen devices, machines etc.. The glass panes have improved wind resistance and enhanced cosmetic appearance, less material is required to form a sealing lip and improved resistance to water penetration can be achieved by using water-sensitive materials in the intermediate thermoplastic layer.
