Further Studies On General Anaesthesia In Equine
摘要:
The present study was carried out on 30 animals of equine species for experimental and clinical work. The experimental work was performed on 20 healthy donkeys, while the clinical one was performed on 10 clinical cases of different animals of equine species. The experimental animals were divided into five groups each of four animals and received one of the studied anaesthetic combinations. All animals were pre-medicated with xylazine hydrochloride intravenously. Five minutes later anaesthesia was induced and maintained with continuous infusion of xylazine/guaifenesin/ketamine (group I), xylazine/diazepam/ ketamine (group II), xylazine/ketamine (group III), xylazine/guaifenesin/ thiopental (group IV) and xylazine/ diazepam/ thiopental (group V). In all combinations anaesthesia was maintained for 45 minutes. Each anaesthetic combination was evaluated for respiratory cardiovascular, haematological and biochemical findings. Moreover, quality of sedation, induction, analgesia, muscle relaxation and recovery from anaesthesia were evaluated. The doses and amounts of the drugs required for induction and maintenance of anaesthesia, the infusion rate and the cost were also calculated. The clinical work was carried out by the application of the aforementioned anaesthetic combinations on the clinical cases of equine species admitted to the Surgery Department Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Zagazig University.
