Formation of iodinated disinfection by-products during oxidation of iodide-containing waters with chlorine dioxide

Thistudy waso exploreheormationf iodinated disinfectiony-products (I-DBPs), including iodoform (CHI_3), iodoaceticcid (IAA)ndriiodoaceticcid (TIAA), when iodide-containingrtificialynthesized watersndaw watersre inontact withhlorine dioxide (C1O_2).monghe investigated I-DBPs,HI_3 washeajorpecies during1O_2xidation inrtificialynthesized waters. Impactactors were evaluated, includingheoncentrationsf1O_2, iodide (I~), dissolvedrganicarbon (DOC)nd pH.ormationfHI_3, IAAndIAAollowedn increasingndhen decreasing pattern with increased1O_2r DOConcentration. I-DBPs yield wasignificantlyffectedyolution pH.ighoncentrationsf I-DBPs were generatednderircumneutralonditions withheaximumormationt pH 8.he increasef I~-oncentrationan increase I-DBPs yields,uthe increment wasuppressed when I~-oncentration wasigherhan 50 nM. When 100 μg/L Pand1O_2 (7.5-44.4 μM) werepikedoheaw wateramplesrom Yangshupundinhang drinking waterreatment plant,ertainmountsfHI_3nd IAA wereoundnder pH 7ndheoncentrations weretronglyorrelated with1O_2 dosagend water qualities,owever, noIAA was detected.inally, we investigated I-DBPsormationf 18odelompounds, including 4arboxyliccids, 5 phenolsnd 8minocids,reating with1O_2 when I" was present.esultshowedhatostfheseodelompoundsouldormonsiderablemountf I-DBPs, especiallyor propanoiccid,utanoiccid,esorcinol,ydroquinone,lanine, glutamiccid, phenylalaninenderine.
