The vinylogous relationship in some pyrethroids

Attention is drawn to a vinylogous relationship between the structure of certain biologically-active pyrethroids. A series of racemic -cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl 2-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-1-phenylcyclopropanecarboxylates, based on this relationship, were synthesised and were found to be only moderately toxic to Musca domestica, Spodoptera littoralis and Leptinotarsa decemlineata .
